GTR at vanishing point
Holden New Zealand has just announced a very limited edition Commodore model – the GTR. Limited to just 100 individually numbered cars this vehicle is a vehicle that needs to be promoted in a way that fits it’s aggressive exterior styling. We fully get that as cars (to put it mildly) are a bit of a passion at WANTED.
Holden were determined that their new TVC didn’t look like every other car commercial and the good people in the creative department at Ogilvy & Mather Auckland agreed. Working alongside Ogilvy Creative Directors Gaelyn Churchill and Steve Hansen, Blu Steven developed a commercial that would be many kilometres away from the life-of-selfies-shopping-and-sidewalk-cafes that seems to be the primary focus of most other car adverts these days. The GTR is not a lifestyle accessory – it’s a car for driving excitement so needed an ad to accent that.
Filmed on a disused airport runway the commercial features a GTR poised ready for ‘take-off’. Once the quickly accelerating car reaches 100 km/h it’s seen to vanish, prompting the campaign tagline of ‘100-0 in next to no time’.
An aerial camera unit was used alongside a ground-based tracking camera and on-board GoPro angles to build an ever quickening pace throughout the commercial.
Ogilvy’s Ben Chesters did a great edit which was beautifully graded by Ben Marshall and digitally enhanced by Martin Spencer. Sound design by John Cooper was the icing on what has transpired to be a very delectable cake.
Client’s stoked and so are we.
