Combining creative energies
Recently we made a campaign of 30 and 15-second television commercials for Media One / Brand FX and their Client, BGC. Media One’s Managing Director, Geoff Kirkham, Account Director Rachel Collins, and Creative Director Chris Pearson had already developed scripts and storyboards for the commercials and approached WANTED to get my ideas on how best to bring the vision to life.
Chris had reviewed a number of production company options and was looking for a producer that could deliver on the potential his script promised, keeping within the established budget limit.
It’s a big thing for a creative like Chris to trust someone else to bring his ideas to life.
There are many nuances and fine-tunings involved in producing a commercial that a complete faith in the Director’s experience and judgement is needed to hand over responsibility for delivering an end product that both Client and Agency will be proud of.
Over a series of meetings and phone calls I expanded on my recommended approach to the project and Chris and Geoff signed on as newbie Clients.
The shoot was undertaken in Wellington because that’s where the hero house was situated, and as Chris’s script called for both female and male leads, as well as a cast of extras for the final street scene, we undertook casting through my Wellington connections. At the same time I assembled an experienced Wellington crew for the 1-day shoot.
With Client’s flying in from Auckland and Melbourne, and talent coming from Tauranga, together with an extras roster of over 20 for the street scene, it was a busy time preparing for the shoot. But good planning, (including perfect long-range weather predictions), great on-set energies and commitment from all cast, crew and Clients saw a hot Wellington shoot deliver some excellent location footage.
Subsequent off and online post production from WANTED’s specialist video artists, combined with a chic music track from Miller Yule, resulted in a couple of very stylish commercials going to air.
Thanks Media One / Brand FX for letting me work alongside you to get these fine spots made. A great example of just what combined creative energies can achieve.
